Bumblebee Malawi Cichlid

This fish is listed in our system under two different names, bumblebee and livingstonii, which are two quite different Lake Malawi cichlids. Rather than guess, we would rather tell you: ask us which fish is actually in the tank before you buy, and we will confirm it. Both are Malawi cichlids and both want the same water and the same style of tank, but they differ considerably in adult size and temperament, and that matters when you are planning tankmates.

Aquarium care

• Needs hard, alkaline water, which Lethbridge tap water supplies well.
• Wants rockwork with caves and clear sightline breaks over a sand base.
• Territorial, as Malawi cichlids generally are.
• Best kept with other rift lake cichlids rather than in a community tank.
• Feed a quality cichlid pellet suited to the species once identified.
