The Andes tiger pleco is sold under its hobby catalogue number, L205, and it is one of the banded suckermouth catfish that reach the trade from the western Amazon drainage. The pattern is a set of pale bars across a dark body, closer to a tiger stripe than a spot, and it is what the fish is bought for. L-number plecos are catalogued by appearance and locality rather than by formal description, and several similar-looking fish share the trade name, so we do not attach a firm scientific name to this one.
Aquarium care
- Provide real driftwood and at least one cave or tube per fish.
- Shy and largely nocturnal; expect to see it in the evening.
- Wants clean, well-oxygenated water with some current.
- Feed sinking foods after the lights go out.
- Bottom-dweller, territorial with other plecos.
Best suited to a settled tank with calm tankmates that will not take the sinking food first. It is not an algae crew. Adult size and exact markings vary, so come and look at what is in the tank rather than ordering to a specification.
Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is sold for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. Browse the current plecos.
