The blood red tiger pleco is known in the hobby by its L-number, L306, and it is one of the striped Panaqolus-type catfish from the rivers of Brazil. The pattern is a series of pale bands running across a dark reddish-brown body, breaking up towards the head, and the red tone is what distinguishes it from the many other tiger-patterned L-numbers. It is a small, retiring fish that spends daylight hours tucked into cover.
Aquarium care
- A small pleco that will not outgrow a normally sized aquarium.
- Provide real driftwood and several caves or tubes.
- Shy and most active after the lights go out.
- Wants clean, well-oxygenated water with some current.
- Feed sinking foods after dark so it gets a share.
- Bottom-dweller; territorial with other plecos, so one cave each.
Suited to a settled tank with calm mid-water tankmates that will not strip the sinking food. Like most L-number plecos it is not an algae crew and should be bought for the fish itself. Sale size varies between shipments.
Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is sold for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the current plecos.
